Google is now starting to use Mobile-First Indexing when websites are crawled.

Google’s Googlebots are now starting to use Mobile-First Indexing when websites are crawled.

What does this mean ?
Simply; Make sure the mobile version of your website is up to snuff.
Google’s robots that index and add you to the search engine will now defer to the Mobile version of your website when its system detects that they are comparable to each other.

This is very important especially if your worried about your S.E.O.

Here is an email I received from them a few days ago.

 Search Console

Mobile-first indexing enabled for https://www.andrewrana.com/

To owner of https://www.andrewrana.com/,

This means that you may see more traffic in your logs from Googlebot Smartphone. You may also see that snippets in Google Search results are now generated from the mobile version of your content.

Background: Mobile-first indexing means that Googlebot will now use the mobile version of your site for indexing and ranking, to better help our (primarily mobile) users find what they’re looking for. Google’s crawling, indexing, and ranking systems have historically used the desktop version of your site’s content, which can cause issues for mobile searchers when the desktop version differs from the mobile version. Our analysis indicates that the mobile and desktop versions of your site are comparable.

We will see what this means for the future, but it’s definitely a good excuse to start updating your mobile sites.
